Cloud System Administrator
VRStorm Inc. is Canada’s first infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) cloud provider. As business grows, a System Administrator is needed to support the cloud infrastructure as well as the internal enterprise and desktop systems. This position reports to the Chief Technology Officer.
Responsibilities
- Cloud Infrastructure System Administration
- Install/Maintain the Linux clusters of physical hardware that run as the critical backend of the company’s IaaS cloud service.
- Hardware: includes server, storage, network and security hardware
- Software: Linux OS and clustering.
- Hardware/software/security monitoring and patching
- Back-up/recovery
- Create/Maintain/Support the virtual machine templates offered in the cloud.
- Need to work with both Linux and Windows operating systems (OS). - IaaS cloud service support
- Respond to technical support requests of the company’s cloud users.
- Provide level-1 support of the supported OS (such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Microsoft Windows) offered in the cloud.
- Escalate to level-2 support within the company if necessary. - Internal Enterprise/Desktop Systems Administration
- Setup/Maintain/Support Enterprise systems such as E-Mail, CRM and file sharing.
- Help other employees on IT problems. - There is also some research and development involvement such as:
- Performance Benchmarking
- Develop tools (such as scripts) to automate system administration
- Research on new hardware/systems and/or architectures
- Documentation and reporting
Qualifications
- A degree in Computer Science or related field. MS or higher a plus.
- Systems Admin/Systems Engineer certification in Red Hat and/or Microsoft desirable.
- Four to six years Linux system administration experience.
- Experience with at least one scripting language.
- Programming experiences with C/C++, Java or other high level language a plus.
- Good understanding of and familiarity with virtualization technologies a plus.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly.
