About the open source of RHEV-H
There have been some questions on the internet about how Red Hat is opening up RHEV-H. Apparently, in the current version of Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization (RHEV), the management part (RHEV-M) is closed source and only runs on Windows. On the other hand, the hypervisor nodes (RHEV-H) is completely open source and in fact is built on top of RHE-5.4. But nobody seems to be able to obtain the sources for RHEV-H.
Yesterday, I attended the Red hat webinar: Increase your profit margin with Red Hat Virtualization! by Chuck Dubuque. After the presentation, I asked about this question and he gave me the answer. Here is the excerpt:
The RHEV-H hypervisor is indeed based on RHEL and is a subset of standard RHEL packages in a monolithic format (not package installer based). As such there is no "package manifest" per se. Right now, we are offering a machine readable copy of the source code on request.
A complete machine-readable copy of the source code corresponding to
certain open source-licensed portions of the accompanying version of
the Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization product is available from Red
Hat on request. To obtain such source code, send a check or money
order in the amount of US$10.00 along with a copy of this offer to:
Legal Affairs c/o Amy Ross
Red Hat, Inc.
1801 Varsity Drive
Raleigh, NC 27606

Please write "RHEV source" in the memo field of your payment. Please
provide an e-mail address and a telephone number so that we may
contact you should we have any questions concerning fulfillment of
your order.
This offer is open to any third party in receipt of this information
and shall expire three years following the date of the most recent
distribution of the referenced accompanying product version by Red
Hat.
